Some of the vedic pundits… They recite long passages from the Vedas as a means of purifying and preparing the temple for the installation of the deities. In some cases I have seen them start very early in the morning and continue throughout a very long day.

These are Vaishanava priests, because this is a Rama temple. The lines on their foreheads identify the tradition that they belong to adn the threads that they wear over their shoulders identify them as Brahmins; members of the priestly caste.
