#3 Sampradaya and Continued Knowledge

July 10, 2008

This podcast presents insights into the importance and flexibility of “sampradaya” as a living tradition for the continuation of knowledge.  Together with Penny Farrow, we examine the triangle of teacher and student and text.  Jyotish is defined and presented as a “vidya”, a divine deep knowledge; based on discrimination and cultivated judgment.  With that in mind, can we call jyotisha a “science”?

Penny has been involved in the study of the Vedic tradition since 1971 and has studied Jyotisha intensely primarily under the expert tutelage of Hart deFouw. For the last five years, she has taught Jyotisha and Sanskrit at the Vedic Vidya Institute in San Rafael.  She practices Jyotisha full-time and is also a teacher and tutor for the American College of Vedic Astrology.  Her website is www.vedicchart.com and she can be reached via email at info@vedicchart.com or pennyaf@comcast.net
